If there’s ever been a fly that’s synonymous with wet-fly fishing then the Claret Bumble would be it. This fly oozes fish-catching appeal. It may not look like anything on God’s green earth but when it’s fished as part of a team of wet flies, normally on the top dropper position, it seems to bring fish from up from nowhere to investigate, even on seemingly barren waters.

This wondrous fly was designed and fished by the great Kingsmill-Moore, a man that knew a thing or two about what trout wanted. The Claret Bumble is one of the famous bumble patterns that originate from the loughs on the west coast of Ireland. This is one of those rarities that can catch you trout whatever the time of the year. The thing with claret patterns is that they almost always guarantee fish, it’s a very subtle colour, not threatening like some of the wild hues we use in our trout patterns nowadays.
