When the Hardy Zenith first came to market I was very impressed by the ease with which distance could be achieved and the soft, yet controlled manner in which you could play the fish once hooked.
It became my number-one rod of choice for fishing, especially in competitions; a rod I felt couldn’t be beaten.
Now, however, the Zephrus beats it. I’ve used this rod on several occasions since September 2015 and it really is a joy to use. I’ve used the 9ft 6in 7-wt on a range of lines from floaters to Di8s, all of which it handled well. Like the Zenith the fish will bend the rod double but it has the backbone to it so that you are in full control.
Made from Sintrix 440, which boasts up to 60 per cent increase in compressive strength and up to 30 per cent reduction in weight over carbon fibre the rod looks and feels the part, with features such as the REC black pearl recoil guides, Fuji titanium stripper guides and the hardwood and triaxial carbon spacer.
The rod comes in a stunning aluminium rod tube with an engraved end cap and is also available in FWS (Freshwater) and SWS (Saltwater) range. So would I buy one? YES!
