As seen in the December 2016 issue, the ThermoWADE wading staff is new to the world of fly fishing. This easy to assemble, ultra-light staff is made from strong, 7075 aluminium and has been designed for the angler to learn more about the environment in which we fish.
It extends to 152 centimetres, with a visible ruler for noting depth or measuring fish, and folds down into three sections so that it can be stored in its smart neoprene case. The staff allows you to record water and air temperature while out fishing; useful information for those who like to record this data in relation to fish caught, time of year, fly hatches, river levels and so on. It is easy to use and can record data up to 10 times sequentially and has a useful pre-settable water temperature alert. It requires two AG10 1.55V batteries and has a back light for the LCD display so that you can use at night. I’ve been having a play with it on the River Dove and it’s amazing to see the temperature differences in different parts of a river system. A great bit of kit, ideal for those anglers who want to know more about their micro environment to build an annual profile on the waters they fish.
