Cookshill Fly Tying Weasel Strips

It was while shooting a forthcoming feature at Foremark that I saw a great looking snake pattern called the Sneasel, tied by top competition angler Gary Owen using weasel strips.

Unlike other fur used for such patterns, the fur on these weasel strips is shorter, with less underbody fur, and longer guard hairs, which darken to the tips. This for me, and perhaps the fish, creates a great looking fly! The short length (approximately 12 to 15 millimetres) in the hair means that this material would be ideal for use in Mini Zonkers, Popper Fry and other lure patterns on the competition circuit. A nice material to use that creates some great looking small fry patterns.
