FISHERY REPORT - 28th February 2012
Summary Of Fishing: February was a better month weather-wise and so rod numbers also improved, especially during half-term week. Catch rates were also very good - an average of nearly 85% was recorded through the last few weeks.
Although the water is not crystal clear at the time of writing, stalking the bigger fish has only been really possible on the sunny days anyway, as wind and rain causes a ripple on the surface, thus making stalking difficult.
However, plenty of decent fish were caught. The best were as follows : Browns - 12lb 11oz to Barney Haigh, 11lb 5oz to Chris Ellins, 10lb 4oz to Wayne Grunder, 10lb 2oz to Mr Bennett and 10lb to L Butcher. Rainbows to 9lb 8oz were also caught.
The best flies continue to be small nymphs - preferably weighted and ideally goldheads. Damsels, pheasant tails, bloodworms and cat`s whiskers are the most effective and most popular.
Again, even at this time of the year, some fish have been rising to and taken on dry flies
