FISHERY REPORT - 16th March 2012
Summary Of Fishing:
Things are Hotting up at Lochter.
Seventeen degrees on Sunday and sixteen the day before ; unbelievable temperatures for this time of year was the reaction of fishers at the Oldmeldrum venue. It was not only the temperature that was hotting up , angling action too was red hot as the lochs came alive, trout shook off their winter torpor and really began to feed hard.
Many anglers had double figure bags and catches of eight and nine were the order of the day. Among the happy double figure squad were Mike Cordiner, J Breen, C Duncan, Davy Wood, Terry Daniels, Ernie Mackay Snr, Ernie Mackay Jnr, W Preston Jnr, and Dave Taylor. While achieving bags of over twenty were Ian Robertson from Orkney and Pete Green. The vast majority of fish were returned to the water to fight another day and a wide array of flies were used successfully with damsel nymphs ,black and green nomads and diawl bachs predominating.
On the events front at Lochter much is also stirring. The Troutmasters heat final is scheduled for this Sunday 18th March at 09.30 with the winner going on to the National final at Grafham Water. A heat for the Airflo World Bank Masters is due to be held on Sunday 25th March. In order to be eligible anglers must register with Iain Barr via his website on www.iainbarrflyfishing.co.uk or pick up an entry form from Lochter. The final at Elinor Trout Fishery will be covered by Sky TV Sports so there is an opportunity for a local angler to become a star of the small screen.
Finally the Lochter Summer league will be something special this year. The first prize due to the generous sponsorship of EM Diagnostics will be an amazing £1000 with proportionate amounts for the second and third. It will be a pairs competition but with a new format. Running from April to September pairs will fish a 6hour session each month on a day of their choice. Each angler keeps the two best fish of the session and they are weighed in and capped at 5lbs per fish. In the Final Fish Off the first two fish are kept and a credit of 3lbs awarded for each additional fish caught and returned. A set of rules will be issued when you register. The revised format provides a better opportunity for anglers all levels to come through as well as providing flexibility to anglers who work offshore or who live some distance away. Early entry is advised as the league will be popular. For more information contact the fishery on 01651 872787 or 872000
