Bewl Water Fishery report

Unusually hot, sunny weather for mid September meant another challenging week of fishing at Bewl. Rod average for the week based on returns is 1.11. The fish are mainly in the deeper, cooler water. Some are showing on the top but were not showing  any interest in flies or bait. There are also still algae blooms in places but water quality was beginning to improve at the end of the week and the temperature was dropping with cooler days and nights and some rainfall.

Boat anglers that have caught have had most success in the Main Bowl. The Dam Wall and Ferry Point are the areas for bank fishing although it is still difficult.

Best flies to try are Boobies and Blobs. There are lots of Daddies about and the advent of cooler weather will mean that the fish show more interest in feeding.

The Annual Grand Max competition took place on Wednesday 15 September. 78 anglers caught 76 trout in the difficult conditions giving a rod average of .97.

Winners were Team Grand Max with 11 fish weighing 19lb 5oz.
