The continuing changeable weather conditions, including bright sunlight and rain has again played havoc with the fishing conditions. However the water temperature has slightly improved to 16 degrees C. The aerators are still not operational and hence the fish have continued to spread out across the reservoir rather than be focussed around the boils.Hence the fish caught have been dependent upon the actual day conditions and significantly there has been some catches within the pontoon basin and off the pontoon when the trout have started spasmodically feeding on the fry. However, it should be noted there has been a few good catches in the centre of the reservoir and the region off of the dam wall. With the exception of the pontoon thebank anglers have still found the fishing very challenging. The signs of the fish starting to feed on the fry bodes well for the future. However, it should be noted that dry fly fishing is at the moment providing the best overall catch returns.
Mr Lord on Monday caught 4 fish including a 5lb brown trout and a blue of nearly 3 lbs. On Tuesday Mr Scragg caught 4 fish on a Mayfly and Bibios. Thursday resulted in Mr Brownridge boating 4 fish off of the dam wall on black suspender buzzers. Mr Wilson returned 5 fish. Friday was the best fishing return of the week being an overall average of 3.7 fish per rod when Mr Wilson caught 12 fish (FAB & Daddy Longlegs) from the basin whilst Mr C Beard landed 9 fish (Orange Blob) from the dam wall and Mr Tapping 6 fish (FAB & Blob). Saturday was memorable since the trout were feeding on the fry around the pontoon resulting in 5 fish being caught from the pontoon. Mr Cotterill fishing from a boat had a blue of 2.5lbs in a bag of 5 fish.
