Ringstead Grange trout fishery has seen its record rainbow weight smashed by a monster specimen of 19lb 8oz.
The fish beat the previous best for the venue by 1lb 4oz after it was caught by Ravensthorpe angler David Hastie, the fish falling for a black and green fritz fly fished from the caravan bank.
Topping off a run of double figure captures at the 36acre Northamptonshire water since its opening day last month, the fish was a grown on specimen, as Ringstead’s Paul Mortimer told TFF:
“This wasn’t a stock fish as we haven’t stocked anything that size this year with the biggest that went in last month being a 17lb 8oz rainbow,” said Paul. “It’s great to see a grown on fish come out at that size, and it also means there could be bigger to come as some of the bigger stocked fish have not yet been caught and will be feeding well.”
Other big ‘bows caught over the last few weeks include a 16lb 4oz fish caught by Newport Pagnell angler Mick Watts, a 15lb 2oz specimen caught by Wolverton rod Robin Holt and a 12lb fish taken by Wellingborough fly fisherman Edward Telfer.
