Pitsford Report

The Narrows fishing well with reports of good sized rainbows and browns coming to boats.

Pitsford Water
Fish week 245 (season 15,811) Returns 91 (4,542) Rod average 2.6 (3.4)
On Tuesday Pitsford hosted the annual match between Anglian Water staff and Environment Agency employees.  It was a tough day with strong winds, but in spite of this Mark Benstead, a casual warden at Pitsford, managed 8 fish and was the only angler in the match to achieve this feat.  Mark used a slow intermediate line with lures and drifted in the Causeway area.  He said “the fish were not very deep at all and when you cast into a wind slick the fish were just under the surface”.  Mark took home £30 in vouchers.

Adam Moxon, of Anglian Water, took second place with five fish weighing 17lb 2oz.  Adam caught the best fish of the match a Rainbow of 5lb 10oz, he won  vouchers of £20 for coming second and another £20 in vouchers for best fish.  Rutland Water warden Nigel Savage was third with four fish for 14lb 12oz.  Nigel fished around the weedbeds with floating fry and minkies.  Anglian Water took a lot more fish than the EA, not least because AW fielded 28 anglers compared to only 10 from the EA.  Darren Trumper of the EA is hoping to field a bigger team next year. This match is used as a qualifier for the Water Industry Game Fishing Championship.  Fishing on next year’s team will be:-

Adam Moxon
Nigel Savage
John Mees
Chris Evans
Paul Frapwell
Stuart East
With Dave Nutt in reserve.

The Lure Angling Society booked 15 boats on Saturday.  Their members caught good numbers of Pike although the bright conditions were not ideal.  A fish of 12lb 2oz was recorded and anglers reported lots of follows from Pike.

In general fish are moving to the weedbeds and falling to lures and nymphs.  Bank anglers are enjoying good sport with favourable conditions with water levels falling.  As the temperatures fall fish will hit fry around the margins.  Lots of Rainbows are showing up this week, all of very good quality.

Best Rainbow                6lb 6oz taken by Andrew Karn of Hertford.

Best Brown        5lb 4oz taken by R Rogers of Harpole.

Best boat areas        Narrows, Bog Bay to Causeway.

Best bank areas        Bog Bay and Stilton.

Best methods        See report.

Mid week boat winner         John Castledine of Desborough.
