Rutland Weekly Report

Venue fishing report for the week ending November 6.

Fish week 256 (season 27,342) Returns 144 (8,830) Rod average 1.77(3.11)

We are witnessing some exceptional fishing at Rutland Water as we enter the last month or two of the season with good numbers of big fish taken. Mike Barratt and Graham Pearson, both season ticket holders, proved the point last week weighing in 16 Rainbows for 56lb 6¾oz.  The pair fished the North Arm with sinking lines to great effect.  Graham also mentioned that they had returned quality Browns.

Brian Stuart from Scotland had in his words “an excellent day” with eleven Rainbows up to 5lb last Saturday (all returned).  Some of the fish have averaged 3lb plus with Neil Squires from Scopwick, Lincoln, taking three Rainbows for 10lb.  John Seaton and Paul Friend fished last Thursday with John taking an excellent 5lb 4oz Rainbow.  The best Rainbow of the week was recorded by Steve Crowder at 5lb 15oz.  The best Brown of the week (returned to the water as Browns are out of season) weighed around 6lb and was caught by Jim Connell of Manchester.

Prospects look good with fish feeding in many areas of the reservoir with fry, sticklebacks, shrimp and snails the main food items.  The best areas to fish are the remaining weedbeds around the reservoir.  Boat anglers are also finding good fish feeding on shrimp around the North Arm Tower.

Steady numbers of Zander have been caught up to 11lb 8oz with one angler recording Pike of 19lb 10oz and 17lb, plus 8 Zander as well as another 8lb 10oz fish.
