Rutland Weekly Report

Venue fishing report for the week ending November 20.

Rutland Water

Frank Cotter of Widmerpool, Nottingham, caught the biggest Rainbow of the week a cracking looking 6lb 8oz fish that fell to a floating fry.   “My boat partner and I came in for lunch, not having caught anything.  We had a chat with Rutland Warden Nigel Savage who suggested anchoring up at the Sailing Club and fishing floating line with a floating fry.  Nigel’s advice worked and I caught this 6lb 8oz beauty – a personal best Rainbow”, said a delighted Frank.

Big fish are still showing.  Season ticket holder Steve Crowder took a 6lb 2¾oz Rainbow whilst boat fishing up the North Arm and Trevor Harvey had a 6lb 6oz fish.  Whilst Jamie Weston of Exton, Oakham, had a short evening session along the Sykes Lane bank and netted a fine 5lb 4oz specimen that fell to a suspender minkie.  This fish had been feeding on Perch fry – some of them over 4 inches long.

Another angler enjoying the late season was Ken Salmon of Leicester who took a number of good sized fish - all had been feeding on the plentiful supply of shrimps.  The average size of fish is very high with many 3-3½lb.  Rutland Water has had some superb fish caught in the last eight weeks with plenty between 5-6lb.  Jim Watts and Mike Barratt had 8 fish with three over 4lb.  The pair used Di5 – Di3 lines with minkies and blobs.

Boat booking is essential to avoid disappointment.  Boat fishing ends on Sunday 27 November.  Bank fishing continues to 31 December.  Four fish (half day permits) are now valid all day until 31 December - £15 (Rainbows only).
