Big fish and personal bests boated in latest Rutland competition.
Rutland Water’s latest Fur and Feathers competition saw some superb action this weekend with a good average size of fish coming to the boats.
It was the boobies, tube flies and fry patterns that scored, especially for overall winner Geoff Allsop. The Melton Mowbray-rod netted five fish for a total of 18lb 9¼oz, with rainbows up to 4lb 11oz.
Second place was taken by Anglian Water fisheries manager Jon Marshall who netted two fish for 10lb 8¾oz, including a lovely fish of 6lb 9¼oz - the best fish of the match and a new Rutland PB for Jon.
Coming in third was Alan Taylor with four fish for 9lb 12oz.
Another personal best on the day was boated by Rutland warden Andy Ainscough with a fish of 5lb 6oz.
The majority of the fish caught in the match, over half of which topped 3lb, came from the Normanton bank, Whitwell and the Peninsula areas of the Rutland.
The top three anglers won seasonal hampers and Jon Marshall won a bottle of gin for taking the best fish.
