An online angling auction raising money for cancer research, Marie Curie and Macmillan nurses has been running now for around three years raising around £27,000 for cancer charities. The website, www.letstacklecancer.co.uk, attracts donations from many of fly fishing's biggest brands.
Lets tackle cancer was born on 'The Fly Fishing Forum' in 2010 by three members to raise a couple of pounds by Fly Forum members auctioning their spare tackle they no longer used.
The auctions were very successful and soon grew arms and legs.
Munro Reid who runs the Let's Tackle Cancer fundraiser said that the auctions are going from strength to strength every year. Some great donations are in for next year with generous contributions from the tackle industry leaders like Hardy/Greys, Rio fly lines, Glasgow Angling Centre, Costa Delmar and fabulous one-off personal donations like the hosted salmon fishing trip with Paul Young, which is currently being planned, the four rods on the Macallan distillery beat on the River Spey or the huge box of 172 amazing trout flies donated by the Tartan Tyers.
Apart from the monthly auctions that are constantly running, what's new for 2013/2014 is the one-off fundraising raffle, to which the company hopes to sell tickets all over the UK.
