More than 1,500 rods from across the angling spectrum are displayed on the shop floor, and you can try them out on the centre’s casting pool or neighbouring canal basin, and the same goes for reels, fly lines and the latest accessories.
The Centre also boasts the UK’s largest selection of fishing clothing and an amazing display/range of flies, making this the perfect opportunity for you to restock your fly collection and fill those boxes for the season ahead.
Glasgow Angling Centre has a host of special deals on the Open Weekend. You can even pick up a freebie just by pre-registering your attendance at the event on their website! What’s more, you’ll get a £5 gift voucher for every £50 you spend.
The fly-tying benches are always one of the main attractions at these weekends, with enthusiasts travelling from far and wide to watch demonstrations from the world’s best fly tyers, including Davie McPhail, Paul Little, Ian Mackenzie, Stevie Munn and experts from Fulling Mill and Partridge. With the help of top materials supplier Veniard, the amazing line-up of tyers will show you how to use the latest techniques and materials. They will give advice and help you to choose the best materials from the Glasgow Angling Centre’s vast fly-tying department.
The world’s finest fly casters and instructors, including Hywel Morgan, Scott MacKenzie, Ian Gordon, Andrew Toft and Stevie Munn will be on hand to help you improve your technique and get the most from your tackle! What better way to choose a new rod than under the watchful eye of a qualified instructor or fly rod designer? You can also visit the SGAIC instructor team, who will be providing free casting lessons to anglers of all ages and abilities.
Another big attraction will be the popular distance-casting event, as always sponsored by Hardy & Greys, where great prizes can be won every day for both juniors and adults!
Open Weekend favourite John Edwards, from Fish Recreations, will be displaying his amazing fish replicas and explaining how to turn your catch into a work of art!
The girls from Ladies Fishing will also be in store, promoting angling for the fairer sex. There will be a lure-test tank on site too, with demonstrations from various celebrities and experts from the world of predator fishing, plus sea-rig-tying demos and advice with Stevie Souter and Mike Thrussell, alongside George Cunningham, displaying the very popular LRF techniques. Sportquest Holidays will be showing details of their amazing trips to Norway for cod, pollack and halibut as well as many other trips for many different species in faraway destinations. The RNLI Information Centre will also be on-site giving free lifejacket check-ups, and Clyde Outboards will be giving help and advice on all aspects of boat and motor sales and servicing too!
On-site catering means you really can spend all day at the Open Weekend and make sure you get the most out of the day, and see all of the displays, demos and special offers – you can keep up to date with what will be on and when with the Fishingmegastore Blog, Twitter and Facebook Pages!
