There were nine full England International anglers taking part to make 13 teams of which three would advance through to the Final at Rutland Water in September.
First pair were back to the jetty with their fish within the first hour, Gary Owen and Phil Longstaff had found a lot of fish down in Watery Lane and took full advantage of having three double hook-ups. The killing method was a Di3 with a blob on the top dropper and a booby on the point.
Pairs started to return back to the lodge steadily with some cracking fish coming to the scales. Best fish of the day went to Andy Taylor of Stafford who landed a quality full-finned over wintered rainbow of 4lb 5oz. Andy and Steve Cullen would weigh in a great bag of fish which took them to the top of the results sheet. Steve and Andy caught all their 12 fish using buzzers, mainly black, and will now go to the final trying to win the biggest cash pot in UK fly fishing.
3rd place to 5th place were separated by only 6ozs and couldn't really have been tighter, with 2ozs between going through and going out! Ric Saccone and Malcom Sargeant took the 3rd place – top angling lads, a great bag of fish which helped them through.
Another great heat was had by all. Thank you to everyone who took part – Scierra for the prizes and Blithfield Anglers.
Next weekend's heats are at Llyn Clywedog on the Saturday followed by Kielder on the Sunday. Places are still available on both heats.
