We did, however, have one day where it didn’t rain quite so hard and I managed to get out and wet a line with Snowbee sales manager Simon Kidd. We fished the river Teign (pronounced Teen) at Fingle Bridge on the edge of Dartmoor. The area is the most photographed in Devon and I can see why…it’s breathtaking and that’s before the leaf is on the trees. Just what it looks like in summer must be even better. The fishing was ‘challenging’ to say the least as all the fish were at worst, overwintered, and most were pure wild brownies although Simon did bump a decent sea trout. Two other anglers did however taste success with the sea trout while we were there, so they most certainly can be caught during the daylight. And, with the quantities of rain the area has had over the last couple of weeks they should be running very well right now. The Upper Teign Angling Association who run the water stock a small number of brown trout each year and at £12.50 per day for fishing 12 miles of prime river has got to be great value. New England Loch-Style manager Martin Introna organised a Pro/Am match at Rutland Water over the weekend. Over 48 anglers turned out in what can best be described as vile conditions. Saying that, the fishing was excellent and there were several 8 fish limits with Lloyd Pallet taking the individual plaudits.

Going out at Grafham Water with my old mate David Hoppe this Friday. The venue is fishing well to Buzzers and Dial Bach’s with Midge Tips and floaters pretty much all the way down the north shore. So I’m really looking forward to a bit of arm wrestling with the reservoirs resident rainbows.

Rutland Water is looking in much better shape with the water levels rising every day, and, with the rivers being full to the brim, I guess pumping will now continue until it fills completely.
