Season’s totals in brackets

The English Disabled Fly Fishers Association Fur and Feather Boat Competition was held on Wednesday 19th October 2016 and nineteen EDFF members fished Eyebrook for the last outing of the season. Although the day was breezy, with a brisk northerly wind, thankfully the rain did not make an appearance. A couple of days earlier the wind had been in a better quarter, and the rod average was much higher, but with the cooler and stronger wind, the fish seemed harder to come by. There were a few blanks, and most anglers came back with hard luck stories of fish that had got away. The figure three at one stage seemed to be the magic number, several anglers weighing in 3 fish, and a couple had lost 3, then along came the top rod for the day, Horace Wood to spoil it all with 5 fish landed. The rod average for the 19 anglers was only 1.5, but would have been a lot higher if all the missed fish had stuck. Harold Pritchett caught the heaviest fish of the day, a rainbow weighing 2lb 7oz. Later in the fishing lodge, members of the Teamwork Trust from Northamptonshire were welcomed who had collaborated with EDFF members recently in the Snowdon Challenge to raise funds for both organisations.

Syngenta held their annual corporate event at the fishery and all enjoyed Eyebrook hospitality including breakfast rolls and a fish and chip supper, but again, a cool northerly wind had done nothing to improve the fishing, the eventual winner of this event was Gareth Debenham with six fish.

Pike fishing began at the beginning of the month at Eyebrook with lures and sea dead baits, one the best fish caught weighing 20lb was caught by Andy Baldock of Northampton on a lure. Sean Cahill caught a fine mid teen pike on a lure as did Adam Ford of Milton Keynes with a well-conditioned 16lb pike. Jobe Burnham caught a fine 13lb pike, and many other pike anglers have caught good numbers of jack. More recently a 25lb 10 oz pike was caught on a float fished dead bait by James Dawson.

The Eyebrook Fur and Feather Boat Competition will be held on Sunday 30th October 2016, the last day of fishing at Eyebrook for 2016. All are most welcome to this event, normal day permits and boat prices will apply plus a £5 entry fee, and please don’t forget to bring a prize for the table. All monies raised at this event will be donated to our chosen charity The English Disabled Fly Fishers Association, Registered Charity No 800452.
